On many worlds, civilization and decay are locked in a never-ending cycles. Pioneers carve settlements out of a monster-filled wilderness. These become towns, cities, and finally splendid kingdoms and nations - until these realms fall victim to some catastrophy or other, and the only remaining trace of their existence are crumbling ruins that are inhabited by monsters once again.

What if the cities just kept on growing, becoming massive centers of magical industry that are home to millions of souls of all ancestries?

What if magic and science promise a better tomorrow, and where the March of Progress seems inevitable?
