One of the fundamentals of the Magical Industrial Revolution is motive power. In the past, the primary sources for motive power were animal labor, wind (for windmills), and water. And while water power is still used in certain locations where it is abundant, modern technology increasingly relies on enchanted gears called Prime Gears.

These gears usually come in a variety of standard sizes and configurations (most adhere to the Praxus Standards). A small, lever-controlled gearbox is usually attached to them, which determines their movement speed and direction. Depending on their size and uses, these can power anything from tiny watches to the trains of the railroads to the massive factories mass-producing consumer goods. As these devices need no fuel and very little maintenance, their main limitation is the cost and resources needed to produce them, and all cities are constantly trying to make this process faster and more efficient.

Designer's Notes

This is is basically a variant of the Animate Object ritual.[1] While it is less flexible than an "ordinary" Animated Object in terms of what it can do, it makes up for this by being able to be controlled by anyone instead of merely its creator.
